01 — THE BRIEF

The Western Rail Yard is one of the most complex development sites in New York — a working rail yard to be decked over, hemmed by the High Line and the river. The proposal answers it with five towers on a shared podium: vertical gardens up the facades, elevated parks between the volumes, and a covered public plaza that stays open to the street.

The images carry the argument. Density, public space and urban life had to read in the same frame — skyline scale for the massing, eye level for the plaza and the interiors, with the facade pattern and planted setbacks legible from pink dawn through to full night.

02 — THE TOWERS

A clay massing set the silhouette before any glass existed — proportions, setbacks, and the gaps between the five volumes that keep river views and daylight through the elevated parks.

03 — INSIDE

Residential and hospitality interiors staged around the structure rather than hidden from it. Dark stone, herringbone oak and a single warm source per room, so the city outside stays the brightest thing in frame.

04 — MOTION

Two pieces cut from the same scene: a landscape film and a vertical edit for social, reframed rather than cropped so the facade pattern and the planting survive at 1080 wide.

05 — FROM THE SKETCH

Eighteen frames were drawn and pinned before anything was modeled — camera height, crop, and the order the eye moves through the sheet. The concept was settled on paper, which is where changes are still cheap.
